Matthew S. Tolf, Retired

Healthcare Management Professional, Chicago Hospitals & Health Systems
Oak Brook, Illinois

CAREER SUMMARY: A results-driven healthcare management professional with 25+ years of key industry experience, complemented by dual certifications in revenue cycle management and healthcare management. Leverages formal insurance training, state licensure, and deep expertise in managed care contracting & reimbursement analytics to optimize payer negotiations, mitigate financial risk, and maximize net revenue. LEADERSHIP IMPACT: Payers and providers have historically operated in an adversarial environment. But the reality is simple: patients win when payers and providers collaborate successfully. Throughout my career, I have focused on bridging that divide. Having worked on both sides, I brought a unique perspective that helped providers understand managed care, navigate complex reimbursement challenges, optimize revenue, and avoid costly pitfalls. On the payer side, I managed provider networks and new product development, building high-performing, cost-effective networks that optimized clinical utilization while aligning provider incentives. RETIREMENT ANNOUNCEMENT: As an external partner, I had the opportunity to collaborate with key stakeholders across many of the Chicago area's leading hospitals, and I genuinely valued every interaction. It has been a privilege to be part of such a dynamic and impactful industry. As a proud Baby Boomer, I look forward to the freedom and new opportunities that retirement will bring. At the same time, I know I will truly miss the daily collaboration, shared sense of purpose, and synergy that comes from working alongside so many talented professionals. The relationships I’ve built and the experiences I’ve gained throughout my career will remain among its most rewarding and meaningful aspects. CONTACT: If you’d like to stay in touch, please feel free to reach out to me here. I’ve retired my LinkedIn account and stepped away from social media, but I’d be glad to stay connected.
